And now for something completely different: Masquerade veils
French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela showcased their range of ‘masquerade veils’ recently at a show in Paris. These intricately designs made of tiled and beaded embroidery seemed to completely bemuse fashion writers.
The fashion house has had to ensure people that the balaclava like designs were not putting the safety of the models at risk and don’t actually affect vision.
‘The base of the masks is made of black silk gauze, a transparent material that allows models to see through it,’ a Margiela spokesman said.
Each mask took 18 hours to make including ‘time for research, design, embroidery, fitting and assembly’.
